What should government or ESKOM be doing to stop loadshedding ?

There are several steps that government and ESKOM, South Africa's state-owned electricity utility, can take to address loadshedding, which is the intentional rolling blackout of electricity to certain areas in order to prevent the national grid from overloading. These include: Increasing generation capacity: This can be done by building new power plants, investing in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, and upgrading existing power plants to improve their efficiency. Improving transmission and distribution infrastructure: Upgrading the transmission and distribution networks can help to reduce losses and improve the reliability of the power supply. Improving energy efficiency: Encouraging individuals and businesses to use energy more efficiently can help to reduce demand for electricity. Reducing demand: Government can reduce the demand by implementing policies like energy pricing regulations and by promoting energy conservation. Investing in maintenance: Regular maintenance will help to keep the power plants and transmission and distribution infrastructure in good working order, reducing the risk of breakdowns and outages. Improving governance: Improving governance of the state-owned utility will prevent corruption, mismanagement and inefficiency which can hamper the ability of the utility to deliver on its mandate. Encouraging private investment in the sector: Government can encourage private investment in the power sector by providing attractive investment opportunities and by creating a stable and predictable regulatory environment.

Nomawethu On Jan. 25, 2023

It's unfair that the electricity is gone 4 times a day . like most of us we live on a tight budget so we buy groceries at the end of the month which includes meat.. now with the electricity coming and going.. once can only imagine that happens to the meat

Langa kaZwide Nxumalo On Jan. 25, 2023

For me yes ,government must do something about it, but also citizens must take care of what is ours. We must learn to pay for our rates nothing for free. If you utilize something you must know there's a cost attached to it..... Yes there's a lot happening in our government but if we work together I think the problem can be solved.. Thanks

Seun mgumbi On April 19, 2023

Eskom should be privatized because our current government has stolen a lot money and eskom ended up forced to literally loot from customers by increasing tariffs in order to keep business going and power on.if its made private I strongly believe there might positive change

Citizens need to pay for electricity must be bought. We cant be using electricity for free with illegal connections and expect that electricity supply wont be negatively affected. The ANC knows what they must do, but because they want your votes they wont disconnect illegal connections.
